Harry Hughes, former principal of Tubman Elementary School, is the Instructional Superintendent for Cluster 7. He began his service at DCPS as a fourth grade teacher at Davis Elementary School in 1999. In 2001, he moved to Whittier Elementary School, where he taught fourth and fifth grade for five years. In 2006, Mr. Hughes joined Tubman Elementary School as an assistant principal, becoming principal shortly thereafter. Under his leadership, Tubman has seen steady and significant gains in both math and reading each year for the past five years. Mr. Hughes holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Virginia and master’s degree in educational administration from Trinity University. He was also part of the inaugural cohort of DCPS principals participating in the executive master’s in leadership program at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.
