Juvenile Justice

The Student Services Division of DCPS in collaboration with the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS), assist students transitioning back to the community with school identification and enrollment support. Several factors are considered and analyzed to ensure that youth graduate with a high school diploma while remaining engaged with the supporting agency DYRS for rehabilitation services.

Mayor’s Services Liaison Office (MSLO)

Pursuant to the District of Columbia Family Court Act of 2001, DCPS provides educational options for K-8 and/or secondary students who have dropped out of school, are at-risk of dropping out, are new to District of Columbia, and/or are transitioning from juvenile correctional agencies. A DCPS Student Support Specialist will represent MSLO on-behalf of DCPS and will respond to inquiries and requests from the referring court source, concerning all educational needs and social issues.

DCPS’ Student Support Specialist will provide transfer and placement services in-conjunction with MSLO to:

  • Voluntary and Involuntary Transfers
  • Immediate Involuntary Transfer
  • Victim Transfers
