Kim Jackson

Kim Jackson

Kim Jackson is the Chief of Schools. Dr. Jackson joined DCPS in 2012 as the Principal of Seaton Elementary School, and in 2015 she was named DCPS’ Principal of the Year and received the Rubenstein Award. As Principal of Seaton Elementary School, student progress was over 30 points higher than the district average and she had double digit gains in both Math and ELA. After serving as the Principal of Seaton Elementary School, she served as an Instructional Superintendent as well as the Chief of Elementary Schools, supporting elementary Instructional Superintendents, elementary schools and the Early Childhood Education Division. She currently serves as the Chief of Schools. Dr. Jackson supported the launch of the district’s annual Literacy Institute, various literacy initiatives and the implementation of the new Building Blocks curriculum. She collaborates with the various divisions within Central Services to enhance the learning experiences at schools.

Prior to coming to DCPS, Kim Jackson was a special education teacher, assistant principal, and principal. She worked in Baltimore, Illinois, and New Jersey. To help support school leaders, Dr. Jackson has participated in the Wallace Foundation Principal PLC, Wilson Certification Program and Leveraging Leadership Institute. Dr. Jackson received her bachelor’s degree from Morgan State University. She holds a master’s degree in special education from Coppin State University, and an Executive Master’s in Leadership through Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. Dr. Jackson earned her doctorate in Education Policy and Leadership from The American University.
