In the 2016-2017 school year, the Office of Instructional Practice launched LEAP, a research‐based professional development model designed to foster collaboration between and for the development of teachers. Teacher Leadership Innovation (TLI) Teacher Leaders, along with other school‐based LEAP Content Leaders (generally assistant principals and instructional coaches) are the primary drivers of this professional development model focused on improving teacher practice and increasing student achievement.
At its core, LEAP is about creating content‐specific, school‐based learning teams (LEAP Teams) that engage in a weekly cycle of lesson planning, content knowledge development, formative observations, and student work analysis. The LEAP cycle is grounded in DCPS curricular resources and facilitated by a content‐specific leader. As leaders of LEAP teams (LEAP Leaders), TLI Teacher Leaders will spend at least 50% of their time in the classroom instructing students and the remainder of their time leading colleagues and will receive an annual extra duty pay stipend for fulfilling TLI Teacher Leader responsibilities.
This position is a safety-sensitive position. As a result, this position will be subject to the Employee Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy. External applicants will need to complete our standard teacher application process, and all candidates new to the role will need to complete a content assessment administered by the LEAP Content Leader Selection Team.
